BenchArt™ Multi-Blade Tissue Chopper For Tissue Dissociation
Preparing tissue for enzymatic dissociation—whether for flow cytometry, single-cell sequencing, or primary cell culture—often begins with the same tedious step: holding a razor blade or scissors in one hand, stabilizing the tissue with forceps in the other, and cutting it into small pieces one cut at a time.
After processing multiple samples, repetitive cutting can quickly become tiring. More importantly, manually minced tissue is often uneven, with large fragments left behind. These larger pieces may digest more slowly or incompletely, contributing to inconsistent single-cell release and greater sample-to-sample variability.
The BenchArt™ Multi-Blade Tissue Chopper offers a faster and more consistent approach. The standard blade holder accommodates eight parallel No. 9 single-edge razor blades at a nominal spacing of 2 mm. Each controlled downward pass makes eight evenly spaced cuts simultaneously. By repositioning or rotating the tissue between passes, users can rapidly produce more uniformly sized fragments while substantially reducing repetitive hand movements.
The standard 2 mm spacing is well suited to many tissue-dissociation workflows that call for tissue fragments in the approximate 2–4 mm range. Depending on the tissue type, sample size, and desired fragment size, a task that may require several minutes with a single blade can often be completed in a series of controlled passes within seconds.
Interchangeable blade holders and matching cleaning combs are also available separately, supporting four to eight blades with nominal spacing options ranging from 4 mm to 2 mm. This allows the chopper to be configured for different tissues and processing requirements.
The included cleaning comb helps remove tissue fragments trapped between the blades. A protective cover provides convenient storage for the blade assembly and cleaning comb when the tool is not in use. Blade replacement is straightforward: remove the locating pin, detach the blade holder, replace the blades, reinstall the holder, and fully reinsert the pin.
The printed components are made from PETG and can be cleaned with water, PBS, mild detergent, or 70% ethanol. The product is not autoclavable.
